About this Workshop

Startup entrepreneurship need not be focused exclusively on high technology. There are vast opportunities for low-tech innovation. We will recount stories of how some of the everyday products we use and love were born, and draw conclusions for entrepreneurs.

Biography

Dr. Shlomo Maital

Dr. Shlomo Maital is an emeritus professor, and heads the Zvi Griliches Research Data Center, at the Samuel Neaman Institute for Advanced Studies in Science & Technology, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He was the academic director of TIM-Technion Institute of Management, Israel's leading executive leadership development institute and a pioneer in action-learning methods, from 1998 – 2009, where he worked with some 200 companies, including global firms and startups, and a thousand managers and entrepreneurs. He was summer Visiting Professor for 20 years in MIT Sloan School of Management's Management of Technology M.Sc. program, teaching over 1,000 R&D engineers from 40 countries from 1984 to 2003. He is the author, co-author or editor of 17 books, including Dismantle: Build Your Personal Creativity Machine (2018), Innovate your Innovation Process (World Scientific, 2016); Smartonomics (SAGE India, 2017); Cracking the Creativity Code (SAGE India, 2014); The Imagination Ladder (Mandarin edition: Hangzhu Books, 2014); Mapping National Innovation Ecosystems (Elgar, UK, 2014); Technion Nation (2012) (incuding Mandarin and Vietnamese editions), Global Risk/Global Opportunity (SAGE 2009), Innovation Management (Sage, 2007; 2nd edition, 2012); and Executive Economics (The Free Press 1994), translated into seven languages. He was co-founder of SABE-Society for Advancement of Behavioral Economics and was an early proponent of behavioral economics, with his initial article on economic psychology published in 1972. His on-line specialization in Startup Entrepreneurship, “Cracking the Creativity Code” is offered by Coursera and has over 30,000 students enrolled in its four courses.
